Fiorano receives UK e-Government Interoperability Framework (e-GIF) Accreditation

Fiorano SOA Platform to accelerate UK "joined up" Government

LOS GATOS, California, September 21, 2010 – Fiorano Software, pioneer in peer-to-peer distributed integration, today announced that it has been accredited to the UK e-Government Interoperability Framework (e-GIF).

e-GIF is a set of guidelines outlined by the UK Government that defines the minimum set of technical policies and specifications governing information flows across government systems and its interactions with citizens, intermediaries and businesses worldwide. The e-GIF guidelines are meant to provide better services tailored to the needs of the citizens and businesses, at a lower cost.

The e-GIF Accreditation Authority accredits organizations for their capability and competence in delivering e-GIF compliant solutions. The Authority maintains a Register of e-GIF Accredited Organizations.

e-GIF compliance is a mandate for all the public sector agencies to ensure a standards-based approach to integration and facilitate interoperability across the public sector.

The Fiorano SOA platform maps onto the key technical specifications of the interoperability benchmarks of the e-GIF. These are:

  • Interconnection - Fiorano supports interoperability between disparate systems based on the exchange of XML data.
  • Data Integration - Fiorano technology, built on XML as the core standard for data integration and management, aligns with and works across the Internet and supports the dominant Internet protocols - TCP/IP, among others.
  • Content Management Metadata - Fiorano supports the addition of metadata to third-party metadata databases, in order to meet the government’s information management and retrieval needs.
  • e-Services Access - Fiorano's comprehensive support for browser-based interfaces bridges the gap between government information systems and intermediaries, enabling accessibility to all public sector information systems.

National Computing Centre (NCC), an e-GIF authorized agency, conducted an evaluation of Fiorano's technical capabilities with respect to the e-GIF assessment criteria.

"We apply a stringent set of parameters when evaluating technology vendors as we aim to lower the technical risks and cost of deployment of IT infrastructure across the Government sector. We are pleased to extend e-GIF certification to Fiorano as Fiorano's integration platform met all the e-GIF assessment criteria and is capable of enabling seamless communication and coherent exchange of services across public sector entities", said Nigel Bragg, Performance Improvement Consultant and Accreditation Manager, National Computing Centre.

"Fiorano already provides HL7 compliant integration and is a member of HL7 UK, which provides a set of interoperability standards for the UK healthcare sector to improve the delivery of health services. This new accreditation to e-Gif standards underscores the key architectural differentiators in Fiorano's product making Fiorano SOA the Integration platform of choice for UK public sector organizations as they seek to comply with fast approaching e-Gif compliance deadlines", said Atul Saini, CEO, Fiorano Software.
